Open Science

As individual scholars and as a global network of researchers, we are committed to advancing trust, equity, inclusion, and communication in developmental science through openness and transparency about our research process and research outputs.

We advance trust, equity, inclusion, and communication through active engagement with community members. All research protocols are developed in consultation with local community leaders and caregivers to ensure:

  • The questions asked are culturally-appropriate and relevant for members (especially children) in that community

  • The methods of data collection are consistent with the values and norms of the community

  • Practices for ensuring safety, privacy, and confidentiality of participant information are clearly and appropriately communicated and enacted

In addition we are committed to ensuring all methods and data are Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable, following the FAIR Guiding Principles for Scientific Data Management and Stewardship.

We are currently building the infrastructure for sharing research protocols, data, and preregistrations through partnerships with:

OSF Collections, which will house:

  • All versions (see “Field Sites”) of all tasks (see “Research Protocol”)

  • All preregistrations of planned analyses

  • Detailed descriptions of research sites and the nature of data collection in those sites

  • Preprints of submitted and published manuscripts

  • White papers detailing our internal policies for working together (e.g., Authorship Guidelines)

  • Cleaned, de-identified data from each sample at each wave, with R-script templates for merging data sets

Databrary, which will house:

  • Video and audio data from child interviews

  • Video and audio data from caregiver interviews

  • Video and audio data from caregiver-child interactions

  • Transcripts (in original language) from child interviews

  • Transcripts (in original language) from caregiver interviews

  • Transcripts (in original language) from caregiver-child interactions, utilizing the “miniCHAT” format
